Conscious Elders

in service to community

returning in 2025

buckhorn springs resort, ashland, oregon

Led by Ron Pevny

This program is presented in collaboration with The Center For Conscious Eldering and Rite of Passage Journeys

This workshop is a dynamic exploration of the inner work that prepares people to fully embrace elderhood and become the elders whose wisdom and gifts are so urgently needed in today’s world. Participants will take steps on the dynamic, experiential path to conscious eldering. We will also focus on the vital role elders can serve in their communities, especially in supporting the growth, aspirations and gifts of youngers in a partnership of generations.

Conscious Elders In Service To Communitiy will focus on these themes:

  • Growing whole vs growing old

  • The potential for the elder third of life to be a time of growth, fulfillment, passion, and service.

  • The inner work of conscious eldering that helps one fully claim and embody their potential as they age:

    • transforming disempowering Beliefs;

    • reviewing and releasing the Past;

    • finding Purpose and Meaning;

    • the importance of Community;

    • and nurturing one’s Spiritual Connection.

  • How a deepened connection with the natural world can support one’s growth as an elder.

  • What it can mean to be an elder in this time of momentous cultural transformation.

  • How we can translate elder passion into tangible ways of being of service to community and especially young people.

This workshop will be highly interactive and experiential. Deep sharing will be catalyzed and supported by weaving together personal reflection time on the land with the Council process (aka The Circle Way). We will share poetry and employ simple, yet powerful, ritual and ceremony to open hearts and minds to the wisdom and vision within each participant. Our goal is to have participants leave the workshop inspired, motivated and committed to entering or moving further along the path toward their conscious elderhood.

About Ron Pevny

“My purpose is to help others move in an empowered way through their major life transitions, and in so doing realize that they are capable of being and doing much more than they have thought possible.

At this point in my life, I live my purpose by supporting older adults in growing into the rich, fulfilled elderhood that is possible for them. I started the Center for Conscious Eldering in 2010, through which I and several colleagues offer weeklong Choosing Conscious Elderhood retreats and shorter workshops at retreat centers across North America. These serve to inspire people approaching retirement age and beyond to aim high as they age, rejecting the strong ageist societal messages that surround us and owning their innate capacity for growth, passion, purpose and service is their later chapters.”

Ron Pevny is the author of Conscious Living, Conscious Aging: Embrace and Savor Your Next Chapter. He is the founding director at the Center For Conscious Eldering in Fort Collins, CO and holds a Masters degree in Integral Counseling and Psychotherapy. Frequently asked questions

How do I know if I am an elder yet?

What’s important is not whether you see yourself as an elder yet, but rather whether you are willing to do the inner growth work that can draw forth the elder qualities that seek expression in the later chapters of one’s life. If the question is alive for you, then you are probably ready for this workshop.

What age do I have to be to participate?

This retreat is most valuable for people over 55 who seek an empowering vision for their elder years.

What will we actually do in this workshop?

We will engage in practices, processes, deep sharing in Circle, private reflection on the land, ceremony and ritual, and storytelling as we explore the four pillars or facets of conscious eldering. The retreat will be dynamic and highly experiential.

I live in Ashland. Can I go home at night instead of paying for lodging?

Yes, but a total $66 day-use fee will be incurred. This is part of Buckhorn Spring Resort’s policy around day-use and lodging.

Can people with mobility or health impairments take part?

Yes, as long as they have sufficient mobility to get around at the retreat center.  If you have questions about this, please give us a call.

What if I don't have a community?

One of the important opportunities (and often challenges of conscious eldering) is making the effort to find kindred spirits with whom to share community. In this retreat we will give ample focus to how one finds, creates, or strengthens community.
